Why This Grain-Free, Nut-Free, Gluten-Free, Vegan Protein Needs to Be Every Fitness Buff’s Best Friend

one green planet
I first discovered how awesome eating a plant-based diet was for me, the planet, and animals everywhere nearly eight years ago. At the time I was a gym rat and was all about eating in a way that could provide me with plenty of energy and stamina for my workouts without having to gulp down whey protein shakes or eat meat to provide me with iron and amino acids. Being extremely interested in nutrition and plant-based foods, I researched my way into finding the truly best single plant-based protein out there: hemp protein. Hemp protein is not only delicious but it’s also full of nutrients that make it a plant-based fitness buff’s best friend! It’s a perfect healthy smoothie ingredient that makes for a truly fabulous post-workout smoothie.

New research focused on the medicinal properties of hemp as well as its use in the biofibre industry will receive more than $198,000 under Growing Forward 2 as part of governments' commitment to research, innovation and regional development. US House District 7 candidates answer questions

SF Gate
Dale: Although it is almost never discussed, the 2014 Farm Bill legalized hemp but restricting it so it cannot be generally cultivated legally. Even in states that have legalized recreational and medical marijuana cultivating low THC, commercial hemp is more restricted. To allow hemp's general cultivation would allow small producers nationwide to produce raw material for three major industries now dominated by highly capitalized, wealthy commodity crop farmers and giant timber concerns, those industries are: cotton for textiles, corn for ethanol and timber for pulp. ... Legalizing commercial hemp for general cultivation would create tens of thousands of new income opportunities and would democratize the farm sector and take tons of carcinogens out of the environment.

Hemp: A historic harvest

The Fort Morgan Times
Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, was a historic date in Logan County.

It marked the first harvest of legal, industrial hemp in the county.

The Colorado Hemp Project, co-founded by Bill Billings and his daughter, Danielle Billings, this year planted its first crop on about 2 acres in a field belonging to Sterling farmer Jim Brammer. Brammer planted the crop in May using a corn planter, and cut it on harvest day. The cut cannabis plants were then gathered by hand by volunteers - some of whom traveled hours - into bundles and shocked, then loaded onto a truck and taken to a warehouse in Sterling where they will dry before being processed.

Does cannabis oil have health benefits?

There has been an emotional climb in news thoughtfulness regarding therapeutic cannabis. Back in 2013, there were reports on CNN, ABC, CBS, and nearby distributions about high-cannabidiol cannabis oil successfully controlling the side effects of uncommon epileptic conditions such as: Dravet disorder, Doose disorder, juvenile fits, cortical dysplasia, and then some. These maladies can result in hundreds to a large number of seizures a week, while likewise disabling improvement in various different ways. For families with kids experiencing such conditions, the difficulties are overpowering. Because of the amazingly intricate nature of Dravet and related disorders, customary pharmaceuticals are insufficient and frequently exacerbate the issues. With no other trust, families have turned to high-CBD cannabis oil, which is demonstrating to work with marvelous viability.

Plus, hemp quickly and noticeably improves the condition of skin, hair, and nails. Each of the nearly 200 recipes in this innovative cookbook uses hempseeds, hemp nuts, hemp flour, or hempseed oil. Vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores alike are honored, and there are many gluten-free recipes as well. The diversity of dish runs the gamut from comfort food such as Hempnut Burgers and Hempnut Fried Chicken to foreign-inspired exotica such as Pumpkin Hempanadas, Hemp Sp├Ątzel, and Green Papaya Spring Rolls with Spicy Hemp Dipping Sauce. Utah Department of Agriculture and Food discusses guidelines for industrial hemp research

As officials at the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) lay out proposed ground rules for how Utah State University researchers and other institutions could work with industrial hemp, some lawmakers say the rules in the current form go too far.

Among the litany of guidelines, law enforcement officials would have “complete and unrestricted access” to industrial hemp plants and anything else at the growing sites used in the research. Law enforcement would be allowed on the growing areas “at any time” to make sure higher education institutions are following the law.

In addition, institutions growing the hemp would be subject to “random sampling” to make sure the THC concentration does not exceed 0.3 percent. Violations would lead to revocation of the research certificate.

Hemp Milk Does a Body Good

fitness goop
If you’re looking for a creamy, rich and delicious drink, filled with protein and healthy fats, look no further. Hemp milk may be your tasty answer. Hemp seeds contain all 8 of the essential amino acids, making it a pretty great protein source. Just half a cup of hemp seeds offers 44 grams of protein, (that’s 11 grams of protein per ounce) and 640 calories.

Another amazing fact about this glorious seed, is that it is perfectly balanced in essential fats. Humans need both omega-6 and omega-3 fats in order to function at our best. The ideal ratio is thought to be between 1:1 and 1:4 (that’s omega-3: omega-6).

Like cars, your body needs to generate combustion energy to burn the calories supplied by food (petrol). But sometimes this mechanism is slow and your body is… cold! In this case you need hemp protein, a supplement based on cannabis seeds that does not cause any of the psychotropic effects associated with the plant. Hemp is recognized by the World Health Organization for having the perfect balance of omega acids to stimulate the body’s thermogenic system. Blend together 1 or 2 tablespoons of hemp powder, 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, 1/2 a green apple with skin, 1 cup grapefruit juice and 1 tablespoon of chia as a great starter in the morning.

Utah lawmaker disapproves of proposed rules regarding new hemp law

Police would have "complete and unrestricted access" to industrial hemp seeds and plants grown on Utah university campuses for research purposes under proposed rules to implement a new state law.

The administrative rules, which would regulate the implementation of the Industrial Hemp Research Act, "have gone beyond any legislative intent beyond the language, the ink on the paper" of HB105, said Sen. Mark Madsen, R-Saratoga Springs.

"I don’t think there's any provision for that kind of law enforcement involvement in this in the language of the bill," Madsen told the Utah Legislature's Administrative Rules Review Committee on Wednesday.

Hemp has successes, failures

“If you grow it, they will come,” said Chris Nelson from Marshall, Mo., standing in the remains of Murray State’s hemp crop, which was harvested Wednesday.

Brannon said the University’s findings could be summarized as, “the good, the bad and the ugly.”

The good: in growing hemp, Murray State found that the largest yields were brought about by seeds that were planted without being tilled. The hemp grew fast in Kentucky’s climate, going from waist-height to shoulder-height in a week’s time, with some plants growing to be as large as 10-12 feet. The average height for the plants was 8-9 feet, and those planted in June were much shorter.

The bad: the University’s hemp crop did not germinate well in a traditional seed bed, tilled and packed with soil or in rainy conditions. Brannon said the school’s lack of knowledge of “when to do what and how” contributed to many of the adverse findings, but these were learning experiences as well.

The ugly: “It’s an ugly plant,” Brannon said. “It’s just not a pretty plant in maturity.”

Gatlin: County must focus on income not from timber (Vote 2014)

Grant's Pass Oregon's Daily Courier
He is a supporter of hard-rock mining, and he considers industrial hemp as a potential new revenue source.

"We have a chance to start a new industry here and it could be the hub of the United States," Gatlin said of hemp, which has long been considered a type of marijuana and has, therefore, been illegal.

Gatlin pointed to the Farm Bill of 2013, which allows universities or state departments of agriculture to grow hemp for research or agriculture programs, which can lead to using hemp for industrial purposes. Also, Oregon is one of 14 states where products containing industrial hemp are legal.

"People have to remember that hemp is not pot," Gatlin said.

Hemp Harvested in MSU Pilot Program; Numerous Officials Take Part in National Bioenergy Day

Murray Ledger and Times
“I saw an issue of Popular Mechanics from 1937 that was declaring hemp as ‘America’s new billion-dollar crop,’” said Dr. Tony Brannon, dean of the MSU Hutson School of Agriculture that participated in a pilot program made possible by both the office of Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner James Comer and Congress’ passage of the latest farm bill. Industrial hemp was declared illegal shortly after that story appeared, as it began being linked to narcotics use, as more recent findings indicate, perhaps unfairly.

Students strive to legalize hemp

Technician Online

NC State students are advocating for the legalization of hemp, arguing that the misunderstood dichotomy between hemp and marijuana has inhibited the U.S.A. from receiving the benefits from mass-producing hemp.

The Raleigh Hemp Society screened the award-winning documentary, “Bringing It Home,” which emphasizes the benefits that hemp can have on our society and the struggle to get it legalized in the US on Sunday in the Witherspoon Student Cinema.

Aumann is an advocate for industrial hemp, and it shows particularly in two pieces:  “Hemp Can Save the Planet” and “Let Me Count the Ways.”  Aumann says the latter piece shows some of the many ways industrial hemp can be used.

"I took soy paste ink and mixed it with hemp oil and made some calligraphy inks so I could write on these circles of hemp.  And these darker circles, I've crushed hemp seed and put in the paper and so these are just many, many, many things that we can be making out of hemp," she said.
