Event will demonstrate hemp processing

The Berry Farming and Ecological Agrarianism Program at St. Catharine College will host a hemp decortication (processing into fiber material) demonstration on Friday. The event is public and open to those interested in learning about last year’s Homegrown By Heroes crop and textile research project conducted through the partnership of Patagonia, Fibershed, Bastcore, Freedom Seed and Feed, and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA).

During a series of meetings, Perlowin was able to review the budget and make necessary changes, meet with specialists to potentially contract with, inspect the grounds and equipment for optimal efficiency, inspect the Kenaf on-hand, and review security measures being taken. Located east of Raleigh at 1436 N. NC Hwy 581 in Spring Hope, NC, the facility encompasses two buildings totaling nearly 70,000 square feet that spans almost 7 acres.
